august 5th, 2024 2.66 miles 1:33 hours 20lb back back in the stinging rain at Folly Beach as Hurricane Derby is pouring down on me I am reading that the best way to train for the AT is hike. So got a backpack that hold weight and two hiking poles and have starting hiking, exercising again. It feels good just having to focus putting one foot ahead of the other. I also read that to get a sense of what hiking on the At is like is to hike when it raining. It is raning where we are right now. Mac has insisted we stay and ride the storm out so i went ourside. All i hear is rushing wind and the rain pelting my hat. The wind is blowing so hard that the rain stings when it hits my skin. I am not unhappy out here.
The next day today Is august 6th. I take my first Zero. My legs are blown out and tired. Tomorrow morning. I will get in as much hiking as my legs will allow and then more the day after until I have to back to work
